Graduation UTC Training :16th October 2020
ISSUP Kenya in partnership with the PCEA graduated the first cohort of trainees on basic UTC course: a total of 30 participants. The ceremony at the Kikuyu mission hospital was graced by the Governor of Kiambu County, His Excellency James Nyoro, In coming SG of the PCEA, Rev. Dr. Waihenya,The CEO Kikuyu hospital Dr. P.Kimpiatu. Other officials present included Rev. Dr. W. Kogo, ISSUP Kenya Executive Dr. Richard Gakunju & Vice president ISSUP Kenya Ms. Susan Gitau.
World Mental Health Day 2020
ISSUP Kenya was pleased to participate in this years World Mental Health Day in partnership with Chiromo Mental Hospital and APA Insurance Company. Over 100 participants joined the webinar on Substance Use Disorders: Role of family & colleagues in the workplace.
ISSUP-Kenya/PCEA Graduation
Today marked the graduation of the inaugural ISSUP-Kenya/PCEA training cohort for UTC. It was moderated by our very own Deputy President, Mwalimu Susan Gitau, and our patron Dr. Richard Gakunju with guest of honour being Governor of Kiambu County, Eng Nyoro. They’ll be sitting the exams soon. Today was presentation of certificates of course completion. Well done to them, and all the best for the exams. (They were a delight to train with)👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
ISSUP Kenya/PCEA UTC Training
Today saw the end of the UTC training by ISSUP-Kenya for the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) which started in October 2019 for the members and staff of this faith-based organisation. Originally meant to end in June 2020 this cohort's training was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

ISSUP Kenya @ Mental Health Task Force
On behalf of ISSUP Kenya, I presented our memorandum to the Mental Health Task Force of the Ministry of Health. The task force, which was set up following a cabinet directive chaired by the President of the Republic of Kenya, seeks to gather public views on challenges and solutions about the state of mental health in the country. As a professional body we advocated for substance use disorders to be treated as a mental health issue and not just a security or moral issue.
ISSUP Kenya Executive Committee Meeting 2020
The Executive Committee of ISSUP Kenya met at the beginning of the year to review the successes and challenges of the previous year and at the same time plan the activities for 2020.
UTC Training for Faith Based Organization
In October 2019, ISSUP Kenya and the Presbyterian Church of East Africa commenced training on UTC for its staff involved with management of persons with substance use disorders. It was a milestone for both ISSUP Kenya and the faith based institution. The series of UTC trainings will continue until mid 2020.
