The harm that tobacco causes is clear. Research has confirmed the damage that smoking has on an individuals wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of those around them. More than 7 million deaths a year are the result of direct tobacco use while around 1.2 million are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.
The latest Lancet Public Health editorial discusses the efforts that have been carried out around the world to reduce the concerning harm that tobacco use continues to cause.
The report describes research that has examined impact of laws introduced in England and Australia and includes a summary of a meta analysis examining effectiveness of behavioural stop smoking interventions.
